How to Choose Clothes, Hats and Shoes for Warm, Sunny Days

Plan an everyday outing around a light layer, a well-fitting hat and shoes suited to your child’s activity.

White lightweight hooded jacket with a blue front zipper.

Start with where you are going

Think about the length of the outing, the surfaces your child will walk on and whether you will move between indoors and outdoors. Then choose pieces that are easy to put on, adjust and carry when they are not being worn.

Look at each item’s construction and care. A warm-weather collection can include products with different materials and different performance information.

Read the UV information on each garment

Our Light and Airy Zip-Up Jacket lists UV blocking of over 80%. It uses a cotton-and-rayon fabric and has a detachable hood. The product’s own details are the reference for its features.

Our Sun-Safe Pucchi Bucket Hat lists UV blocking of over 90%. Those percentages are specific to these products; they are not a single rating for the whole collection. They should not be read as UPF ratings or a promise of complete protection.

Choose a hat by fit and coverage

Check the hat’s centimeter size range rather than age alone. The featured bucket hat has side drawstrings for adjustment and a removable neck flap, so look at how those details work before choosing.

A hat your child can wear comfortably is more useful than one chosen only by its appearance. Check its fit and the product’s instructions when it arrives.

Match the shoes to the activity

Our Double Raschel Second Shoes combine a breathable, quick-drying mesh upper with a closed toe and rubber outsole. They are an option to explore for a child at the appropriate walking stage.

Mesh does not remove the need for a fit check. Measure both feet, compare the size chart and check the fastening and heel fit just as you would with another everyday shoe.

Separate the care routines

The featured jacket lists cold machine washing and line drying. The hat lists hand washing, and the mesh shoes list hand washing and drying flat. Follow the label for each item instead of washing the whole outfit the same way.

Choose the pieces that suit your plans, and review the individual product information for the current sizes and full details.
