How to Choose a First Birthday Gift
Choose for the child’s everyday life now: what they wear, how they move and what the family will find useful.
Choose for the child, not the number on the card
A first birthday is a lovely reason to give something thoughtful. It is not a clothing size or a walking stage. Ask what the child enjoys doing, what size they wear and whether the family would prefer something for now or a later season.
One specific answer can be more helpful than a long wish list. A current clothing size, a preferred color or a request for practical everyday items gives you a clear direction.
For everyday clothes, check the intended fit
An outfit can become part of many ordinary days after the celebration. Our Everywear Pants offer an adjustable elastic waist and a three-quarter length. Pair the choice with the season and the child’s current size rather than automatically selecting 12MO.
For cooler days, our My Favorite Elbow-Patch Sweatshirt is another option. Its 12MO and 2T sizes have shoulder snaps. Check the product details for the size you need before making that feature part of your choice.
For shoes, ask for a recent measurement
Shoes are a more personal fit choice. Find out whether the child is beginning to stand, taking independent steps or already walking confidently, and ask for recent foot measurements.
If those details are not available, consider another gift instead of guessing. A first birthday does not mean every child needs the same first-walker shoe.
When clothing size is unknown
A practical item such as our Lucky Charm Towel Set avoids choosing a garment size. It contains two cotton gauze-knit towels. Consider whether a useful everyday item suits the family better than clothing chosen with limited information.
You can make the choice personal through color and a thoughtful message without needing to guess how a garment will fit.
Leave time for the finishing details
Check whether your chosen product includes wrapping or whether you need the separate gift-wrapping option. Review the shipping information for timing and the return policy before ordering.
Some gifts, including towels and gift sets, have return exclusions. Choose with the family’s needs in mind rather than relying on a later exchange.
