Choosing Silk for Your Child’s Special Occasions
Plan a special outfit around the occasion, your child’s comfort and the care the individual garment needs.
Begin with the day you have planned
For a family celebration or a special outing, picture how long your child will wear the outfit and what they will do in it. Will they sit for a meal, move around with family or change clothes during the day?
Choose a silhouette that works for those moments. A special material can be part of the appeal, but the opening, fit and movement still deserve the same attention as everyday clothing.
Explore the fabric and construction together
When viewing a silk garment, look at its surface, shape and finishing. Ask about the composition of the main fabric and any trim or lining so you understand the whole piece.
Try the garment with any layers planned for the day. Check the shoulders, sleeves and opening, and give your child time to move comfortably in it.
Ask about care for the exact piece
Care can vary between silk garments. Ask to see the instructions for the style you choose, including how it should be washed and dried. A washable description on one item should not be applied to every silk piece.
If you are giving the garment as a gift, make sure the recipient has the care information. Knowing how to look after it helps make a special outfit easier to use again.
